Operating Generator and Gas Turbine Power Stations Across Africa

A power station is not a genset with a fence. It is fuel, civil, electrical,

Station Variables That Decide the Service Plan

O&M that ignores design variables becomes expensive theatre. Before we write
a standing organisation we lock:

• Duty. Baseload mine, cycling utility, emergency-only, or
  data-hall bridge. The maintenance calendar is a consequence.
• Fuel. Distillate, HFO, pipeline gas, dual-fuel, or hybrid
  with solar and storage. Treatment and testing are not optional in African
  logistics.
• Frequency and grid. 50 Hz is the African default; 60 Hz
  appears on certain packages. Weak-grid and island behaviour change protection
  settings and operator drills.
• Ambient and altitude. Heat and elevation derate machines.
  We will not invent FX-45 derates; we will apply OEM-competent derate thinking
  to whatever is actually installed.
• Redundancy. N+1 at engine or block level changes spare
  holdings and whether a call-out is a crisis or a planned swap.
• People. Which hub owns the plant, who is hired locally, and
  what competence looks like before we claim 24/7 cover.

Yes, after an as-found and a scope that names the gaps. We prefer lifecycle
plants we designed and built, because extended warranty and data pathways are
cleaner — but African reality includes inherited halls.
